Many student athletes live in dorms and residential
housing on or near campus. Frequently, very busy athletic and
study schedules prevent many student athletes from preparing
and eating well-balanced meals. Sometimes nutritious foods are
available in university residential settings, but student athletes
who are not well educated about nutrition make poor food choices
and therefore, may suffer from marginal nutrient imbalances
and deficiencies that over time adversely affect their performance
in athletics, and in the classroom.
Student athletes need regular well-balanced, well-prepared
nutritious meals and snacks to maintain the high energy demands
of training, competition and the rigor of an academic program.
Sickness, injury and general feelings of fatigue can be significantly
improved when a student athlete takes a personal, active interest
in his or her diet. The information contained in this section
addresses many topics related to sports nutrition. Student athletes
should be aware that a healthy, well-balanced diet can make
an essential contribution toward academic and athletic excellence!!
