Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU)

Position Focus:     The HIWU Copy and Design Manager is a dynamic, creative member of the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU), a division of Drug Free Sport International/International Doping Tests & Management (DFSI-IDTM). The person in this role will operate in a fast-paced work environment, assisting the communications and education team by developing compelling written and visual content and executing designs for a variety of projects, including digital and print media.

Summary of Qualifications:     To successfully perform this role, the individual will be a systems thinker with a passion for complex questions and applying visual skills to create clear and engaging storytelling. The HIWU Copy and Design Manager will uphold the company core values and vision, demonstrate integrity to the highest degree, and have a high desire to serve the Thoroughbred horse racing industry, clients, and colleagues.

Essential requirements include:

  • BA in graphic design, communications, or related field
  • 3+ years professional experience as a graphic designer or similar role
  • Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills
  • Experience with layout, typography, color, and other design principles
  • Experience in copywriting and editing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of project management
  • Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Pass a pre-employment screening including drug test, background check, confidentiality agreement, degree(s) verification, and professional reference checks

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in media/public relations
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with motion graphics, video editing, and animation
  • Familiarity with user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles
  • Knowledge of print processes and requirements
  • Knowledge of equine or Thoroughbred industry

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with HIWU team members and stakeholders to design and produce high-quality communications materials, including but not limited to education materials, press releases, forms, blog posts, newsletters, brochures, website content, social media graphics and updates, email and print campaigns, and reports.
  • Team with colleagues and stakeholders to develop creative concepts that meet objectives and exceed expectations.
  • Manage projects from start to finish, ensuring accuracy, quality control, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design trends and best practices.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget parameters.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
