Drug Free Sport Announces 2018 Athletic Trainer Continuing Education Award Recipients
Awards honor certified athletic trainers on the front lines of drug abuse, doping, and wellness education.
 

KANSAS CITY, MO. (April 30, 2018) High school and collegiate certified athletic trainers wear many hats in student-athletes’ lives: health care provider, confidant, educator, advocate, and counselor, to name some. To honor their selfless work to ensure health and safety, Drug Free Sport® established the Drug Free Sport Continuing Education Award. In partnership with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, the following are the 2018 award winners of this year’s $1,000 grants (listed in alphabetical order):

  • Raeann Bromert, Head Athletic Trainer, University of Saint Mary (KS)
  • Lauren Ey, Head Athletic Trainer, The Catholic High School of Baltimore (MD)
  • Gini Fite, Athletic Trainer, Smithville (MO) School District
  • Glory Fung, Head Athletic Trainer, Concordia University Irvine (CA)
  • Jay McCloy, Assistant Athletic Director for Health and Performance, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro

“These five men and women embody Drug Free Sport’s purpose: ensuring fairness in sport, and health and safety for athletes,” said Chris Guinty, President/CEO of Drug Free Sport. “As student-athletes are faced with access to more substances and misinformation than ever, we are proud to assist such positively influential leaders in their continuing education.”

The judging committee for the awards is comprised of a diverse group of sport drug testing professionals and certified athletic trainers, including a former award recipient.
