ABOUT:

This webinar aims to describe the link between the biopsychosocial components of eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors in athletes with the ever growing weight loss culture and use of popular medications such as glucagon-like peptide 1 agonists (GLP1a). Utilizing both a clinical sport psychologist and clinical pharmacist perspective, Drs. Streno and Cannon will provide a look behind the curtain to help athletes, coaches, and sports medicine providers navigate the questions and uncertainties around this important topic.

At the end of this presentation, attendees will be better able to:

  1. Summarize information about the development and prevalence of eating disorders in the athlete population.
  2. Identify the risk factors athletes face that predispose them to eating disorder concerns, behaviors, and body image issues.
  3. Recognize medications in the class of Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 agonists (GLP1a).
  4. Summarize athlete-specific considerations when assessing the appropriateness of GLP1a use.

Target Audience: ATs, RDs, CSCS, and other sports medicine or athlete support staff
