Pre-License Checklist 2025

Pre-License Testing Basics 2025

NASCAR PRE-LICENSE TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Drug Free Sport manages NASCAR’s Pre-License Testing Requirements.  Under the Policy, at the National Series level, all members who will be listed on a NASCAR Event Roster are required to obtain a negative drug test result prior to obtaining their license for the season. This includes, but is not limited to: Drivers, Crew Chiefs, Car/Truck Chiefs, Spotters, At-Track Crew (Chassis Specialist, Engine Tuner, Engineer, Fabricator, Mechanic, Shock Absorber Specialist, Tire Specialist), Tire Changers, Tire Carriers, Jack Person, Fueler, Hauler Drivers, Organization Level Representatives, and all NASCAR Officials. This applies to all individuals who will be working all season or just one race. All members requiring a 2025 NASCAR pre-license drug test may complete their testing beginning December 9th, 2024. Please be aware, NASCAR will not accept any negative test result older than 90 days before the time of competition.

For NASCAR’s Modified Series, only drivers are required to have a pre-license test. This includes all individuals who will be driving all season or just one race.

Pre-license tests that are facilitated through ARCA will not meet the requirement for NASCAR and will not be accepted, but a NASCAR facilitated test will be accepted by ARCA.

COLLECTION FACILITY NETWORK

Drug Free Sport has a network of approved Collection Facilities nationwide.  Most of these facilities will now require an electronic “authorization form” to complete testing via electronic chain of custody forms.

For the 2025 NASCAR season, we will primarily be using these electronic chain of custody forms instead of the paper forms from past seasons. This has increased the number of facilities that are now available and allows donors to complete testing almost immediately. Please select “Request a Collection Facility” from the drop down menu below, fill out all of the information, and click “Submit”.  Shortly thereafter, you will receive an electronic authorization form that will be sent to the email address that you provided. This form will have the collection facility name, address, hours of operation, and contact information. We recommend calling the facility ahead of time to confirm hours of operation as many facilities have made changes to this in the past year.

You will need to bring the authorization form with you (either printed or on your phone) as well as a government-issued photo ID to the facility with you at the time of testing.

Please allow for up to five business days from the time your test is completed until your result is processed.

***Beginning on June 30th, 2023, all NASCAR Pre-License tests must be completed with Quest Diagnostics testing supplies. If you have leftover CRL testing supplies, please contact  to receive instructions on how to have them replaced with Quest testing supplies. You can still request a collection facility on this page to acquire an electronic chain of custody form to complete testing.***

PRE-COLLECTION

For your collection you will need to bring a government-issued ID (e.g. Driver’s License or Passport) and your authorization form to the facility.  Upon arrival at the facility, please inform the staff you are there to complete your “NASCAR Pre-License drug test” and show the employee your electronic authorization form.

POST-COLLECTION

Once you complete your drug test, samples are shipped overnight to Quest Diagnostics in Lenexa, KS for analysis. Samples can take up to five business days to clear analysis. For this reason, it is highly suggested to complete your drug test well in advance of your first event. If you choose a collection facility that does not currently have collection supplies on-hand, please allow one week for supplies to be shipped to the collection facility.

PAYMENT

The cost of a pre-license test is $90.00. It is important to know that your drug test result will not be released to NASCAR until payment is received. To pay, click on the button below/please visit the below link to pay online via credit card.

TESTING TIMELINE

The normal turnaround time for a test to report is five business days. Please be aware if a request for a testing facility is made within seven days of a result being needed or if supplies need to be overnighted to complete a test in time, Drug Free Sport reserves the right to charge an additional fee. This fee is in addition to the standard $90.00 drug test fee.

CANADIAN COLLECTION FACILITIES

If you need to complete your NASCAR Pre-License testing in Canada, you will need to contact Drug Free Sport to arrange a testing facility.  Please allow at least two weeks for this process to occur prior to your first date of competition.  This will account for arranging a testing facility, shipping testing supplies, and analyzing your results at the laboratory. There is an additional $50 charge for international testing.

MEDICAL REVIEW OFFICER AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION

The Medical Review Officer for NASCAR is Dr. Douglas Aukerman.  Dr. Aukerman reviews all of the non-negative results for NASCAR Pre-License testing.  Dr. Aukerman also reviews any prescription medication, which could trigger a non-negative result.  In order to expedite the review process, you may send your prescription medication and Chain of Custody Number to Dr. Aukerman – .
