RED-S & Its Increased Risk of Supplement Use

With the increased awareness of RED-S, we are growing aware of other considerations to explore such as supplement use. Supplement use has been associated with usage to address fatigue and nutritional deficiencies.
At the end of this presentation, attendees will be better able to:
- Describe interplay of RED-S and common reasoning for supplement use.
- Recognize symptoms of RED-S that increase risk of supplementation and doping.
- Prepare athletes to make informed decision regarding appropriate use of supplements.

Becca McConville, MS, RD, LDN, CSSD
Becca is a board certified sports specialist and eating disorder dietitian. In addition to Becca’s private practice, she has served as a consultant to the University of Missouri Kansas City Athletics, Kansas City Ballet, local colleges and previously worked with the Kansas City Chiefs. Becca is also the author of Finding your Sweet Spot- How to Avoid RED-S (Relative Energy Deficit in Sport) by Optimizing Your Energy Balance. She is a co-host of a podcast called PHIT for a Queen devoted to female athletes.
