As the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) Chief of Operations, Kate ensures the operational compliance with the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication program. Prior to joining HIWU, Kate Mittelstadt served as the Director of the IRONMAN Anti-Doping Program. IRONMAN was the first private, non-federation sports company to formally adhere to the World Anti-Doping Code, and under her leadership created a WADA Code compliant program that serves to protect the integrity of events and the health of athletes through the IRONMAN Anti-Doping Rules and I AM True education and outreach initiatives.
Kate’s anti-doping career began with the inception of the United States Anti-Doping Agency in 2000; including six years as its Director of Doping Control. She has been involved in global anti-doping initiatives in a variety of capacities, including as the Director of Doping Control for the Association of National Anti-Doping Organizations, Manager of Out-of-Competition Testing at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, as a member of WADA’s Athlete Outreach Teams and as a member and Chair of WADA’s Independent Observer Teams. Kate has also served as a member of various working groups for WADA as well as National and International Federations.
